Return to Fulda

D+9 | 29 July 1989, 04:00hrs - 11:00hrs vs @ Fulda

NATO’s counterattack has begun with a successful attack at Niddia. From there, the 3rd Armored Division advanced towards Schotten and were able to break through the Soviet line early on 28 July. After securing Lauterbach, the US 3rd Arm Div tasked the 2nd Battalion, 32nd Armored Regiment to advance southeast to reclaim Fulda.

The Soviets were not prepared for the counterattack and had few forces in place to react to this threat. They were unable to seal the gap, and their forces arrived too late at Schotten. In Fulda, a single BTR Company from the 243rd Motor Rifle Regiment was recuperating from their previous losses and suddenly need to defend the river crossings. They are not prepared to stop the American spearhead, but luckily for them, the reinforcements are on the way. The 244th Guards Motor Rifle Regiment was recovering South of Fulda and now are on the move North to assist.

The war is returning to Fulda with a vengeance.
